Help Bent Arrow Build A Permanent Enclosure for a Sweatlodge In Edmonton
A Sweatlodge is a gathering place for many Indigenous Peoples. It is a place for Ceremony, a place for Healing and a place to Înibi (Isga Nakoda)- that is to Make Life.
Currently in Edmonton there is a shortage of permanent sweatlodges, meaning a shortage of places Indigenous peoples can practice their culture. To date, Bent Arrow has received funding from CN Stronger Communities Fund, TD Bank, Sheritt Mines, Dexterra Group, and Boys and Girls Club Big Brothers Big Sisters to build a permanent structure that will enclose an Înibi (sweatlodge). It will be located at our Parkdale office (11648 85 Street NW, Edmonton, AB T5B 3E5).
Leading Edge Physiotherapy has pledged to match up the first $5000 donated to Bent Arrow in this campaign! Giving us $10 000 towards our final goal of $75 000! We hope to break ground in the spring of 2022!
This sweatlodge will support Edmonton and area’s urban Indigenous community, or anyone wanting to experience a sweatlodge ceremony. We’ll be able to offer sweat ceremonies to participants, staff, community members, partners, alike right in the heart of North Central Edmonton.
For the Indigenous community, no longer will they have to travel outside the city to access this ceremony and can feel proud that their traditions are being celebrated. For the non-Indigenous community, we will be providing convenient access to experience and learn about an Indigenous ceremony.
In sharing this sweat lodge with both Indigenous and non-Indigenous community, we will be providing an environment for cultural understanding, education and of reconciliation.
