“Sense of grounding and connection”: Bent Arrow’s Community Christmas Party set for December 22nd

Every year, Bent Arrow hosts its Community Christmas Party. This year, more than 1,500 community members will enjoy the festivities inside the Edmonton Inn Ballroom. With the ever-growing cost of living, the holidays can be a difficult time of year for Edmontonians. To ensure everyone can experience holiday joy, Bent Arrow hosts the event annually, providing Christmas meals, gifts, and activities for families.

“The event has always been all heart! It has grown over the years, not just in heart but with so many more hands to do this “heart work”.  We’ve grown from a staff team of 12 in the mid 90’s to just over 260 today and we’ve picked up some community partners along the way. Along with our staff, we’ve had companies contribute volunteer hours wrapping gifts, partners like EPS and CFS doing toy drives on our behalf and folks showing up to help on the big day. Community feels the love and care from all who show up to make the day special. “ – Cheryl Whiskeyjack, Executive Director

As the holiday season approaches, the spirit of togetherness becomes more important than ever, especially during a time that can be difficult for many. The annual gathering continues to remind staff and community members that the true meaning of the holiday season goes far beyond decorations or presents, rather focusing on connection, shared memories, and the strength of community.

“While it can be challenging this time of year, this event has been more about community and fellowship then the food, gifts, and activities. Our community partners come to share holiday vibes with our staff. Our staff get to spend time with the families, kids and community we serve. After serving community for over 30 years, we have kids we served who now bring their own children to the event. Former staff who come to connect with old coworkers. Our staff bring their own little ones too!”

The Community Christmas Party couldn’t happen without some support from our partners. Earlier in December, Bent Arrow received a visit from RBC staff members from across Alberta came to Bent Arrow to help wrap gifts for the party. In addition to their time, RBC gave us a lovely donation to help give the best Community Christmas we can. A massive thank you to everyone who helped out and wrapped gifts!

Every year, Bent Arrow looks forward to the smiling faces that fill the room as families open gifts, play games, enjoy the entertainment, and sing karaoke together. This year will be no exception.
