Purpose:

Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society (Bent Arrow) is a non-profit organization that provides unique programs and services to Edmonton’s urban Indigenous population. The organization was created in 1994 when Brad and Shauna Seneca identified the need for programming for Indigenous children and families based in traditional Indigenous values and teachings. This year we are celebrating our 30th anniversary, and we have grown as an agency where we have over 250 staff and 23 programs, but our mission remains to “build on the strengths of Aboriginal children, youth, and their families to enable them to develop spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally so they can walk proudly in both the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities.”

The Program:

The Sacred Circle Family Intervention Program serves families who have Children Services involvement. Our Family support and youth workers work with Indigenous youth and families addressing issues that necessitated Children Services involvement. Support can include connecting the families to community resources, mediation, advocacy, crisis intervention, relationship building, teaching, and cultural support.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support using a harm reduction and strength-based approach.
  • Build supportive and professional relationships with youth.
  • Interview clients to assess their situation and determine the types of services required, and eligibility.
  • Provide counsel and therapy to help clients resolve social and personal problems.
  • Plan programs of assistance for clients.
  • Refer clients to relevant youth agencies and supports.
  • Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team working with a client group.
  • Act as an advocate for client groups in the community.
  • Perform administrative tasks.

Competencies:

Essential:

  • Must have own vehicle with a 2-million-dollar liability insurance coverage
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and willing to obtain a driver abstract
  • Must provide a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and Intervention Record Check (within a 6-month period from date of completion).

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Computer knowledge and different software applications.
  • Experience working with Indigenous youth is an asset.
  • Perform administrative tasks and knowledge in using computer applications and database with E.T.O. would be an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with high-risk children and youth.

Education:

  • Post secondary education (Social Service Diploma or Degree)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.44-$27.75 per hour
