Indigenous Youth Mentor

Mentorship And Gang Solutions (MAGS)
Job Description
A great mentor has many traits— they can be a role model, cheerleader, policy enforcer, advocate, and friend to the youth they work with. As a mentor, you can make a lasting impact on the life of your mentee. You are not only a role model and a leader, but you also have the knowledge and experience that others look up to and rely on for guidance.
Having someone that you can look up to and go to for support is one the most important things a youth can have. Mentors with genuine lived life experiences give youth the confidence they need to confront challenges and come up with their own solutions and make positive change in their lives.
The Mentors with the Mentorship and Gang Solutions (MAGS) program have valuable life experiences that increase their understanding of the barriers the youth face. They provide emotional and social support to others who share a common experience. |
The MAGS program has been introduced in partnership with Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society and the Salvation Army to target the highest risk youth aged 12-21 in conflict with the law.
Mentorship and Gang Solutions (MAGS) is a restorative justice initiative aimed at mitigating the long- term negative financial and social impacts of justice-involved youth. The target demographic is youth who have become involved in one or more of the following areas of concern: drug-use, gang involvement, general crime, and violence. The MAGS approach focuses on intervention in the lives of these young people. |
MISSION STATEMENT
To elevate the perspective of misguided youth in a way that illuminates their potential to lead
adventurous and exciting lives in a manner that benefits society and minimizes traumatic consequences,
doing so in such a way that acknowledges their agency and inherent value as divinely powerful human
beings.
