HOUSING OUTREACH WORKER – EAGLES NEST
Indigenous Youth Housing First is an intense home visitation and follow-up program designed to assist high risk youth experiencing chronic homelessness. We provide in-home follow-up support, with cultural and spiritual support and education.
Responsibilities
· Assist high risk youth to secure safe, affordable, accessible and appropriate long term housing options, as well as the necessary items to set up a home.
· Ensure that high risk youth seeking Housing First Services will receive appropriate assessment of their housing issues.
· Assist youth to be re-housed as they are connected to housing resources for individuals and families.
· Providing short-term problem-solving opportunities, identifying and assessing supports and referrals needed.
· Ensuring client is fully informed of Housing First mission and philosophies
· Working in partnership and with both the private and non-profit sector of the housing market to ensure appropriate placement of clients
· Ensuring that all necessary paper work including (but not limited to) lease signing is completed once housing is located
· Ensuring appropriate utilities are connected
· Maintaining accurate comprehensive documentation regarding all interactions with clients. Documentation must be in accordance with agency standards, and according to funder requirements.
· Partnership responsibilities including but not limited to: intake, partnership meetings, case conferencing, training and committees.
· Ensure all information is being documented in the ETO database
· Other duties as required by the team leader
Qualification Requirements
· Must provide a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and Intervention Record Check (within a 6-month period from date of completion). **Preference will be given to candidates with completed checks.
· B.A./B.S.W./Human Services Degree or Diploma or equivalent
· 3 – 5 years minimum of relevant experience
· Enthusiasm for being part of the solution to end homelessness in Edmonton
· Knowledge of the High Risk Youth Initiative philosophy, including harm reduction and relationship based
· Knowledge of addictions, gangs, sexual exploitation, homelessness, poverty, use and neglect.
· Must have own vehicle and be willing to transport clients.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and willing to obtain a drivers abstract
· Must have 2-million-dollar liability insurance coverage
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary and Benefits
· Salary plus monthly auto allowance.
· Paid sick and wellness days after 3 months’ probation (pro-rated)
· Extended Health Benefit (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months’ employment.
· Working approximately 34.5 hours per week
