Job Title: Family Violence Support Worker
About The Job
We are currently seeking a Support Worker to join our Sohkisiwin (means strength in the Cree Language) team. The Sohkisiwin program supports Indigenous Women, Girls, and those that identify as LGTBQ/Two Spirited who are victims of family violence or intimate partner violence. Our program provides guidance and support in mapping the path to healing. We provide one-on-one outreach services and in class facilitation that is designed to support victims of family violence in exiting and/or who have been impacted. The facilitation consists of 12-weeks of in class workshops developed to provide increased education and awareness about intergenerational trauma, family violence, cultural connections, and increased skill development so families can feel empowered in moving forward in their healing journey.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct risk assessments and safety planning.
- Develop a therapeutic and trusting relationship with families, providing a sense of safety.
- Assist participants in activities such as: groups events, educational, recreational, and therapeutic.
- Provide emotional support, through role modeling of appropriate behavior and confidentiality.
- Provide assistance and referrals to housing, psychologist, physician, outreach supports, cultural connections and community integration.
- Assist with court issues, restraining order/no contact and or guardianship of children.
- Maintain client files both on paper and online.
- Need to be able to work flexible hours.
Essential Skills:
- Excellent computer skills and proficient in oral and written communication
- Must be self-motivated, organized, and have the ability to prioritize your workload.
- Strong counseling, assessment, and crisis intervention skills.
- Experience in the field.
- Be well informed in family dynamics, domestic violence, and addictions.
- Have a strong knowledge of indigenous culture.
Qualification Requirements:
- Counseling skills that focus on a person-centered approach with strong problem solving, de-escalation and goal setting.
- Diploma in Social Worker, Psychology, and or Counseling would be considered an asset.
- Excellent knowledge of Domestic Violence, Gender issues and prevention strategies
- Relevant experience will be considered.
- All successful applicants must provide a criminal record check and child intervention check within the last 6 months.
- Valid driver license, reliable car and proof of 2 million liability insurance must be provided.
Salary and Benefits:
- Wage or compensation: 46,320.00 – 50,000 per year
- Auto allowance
- Paid sick and wellness days after 3 months’ probation (pro-rated)
- Extended Health Benefit (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months’ employment.
- Working approximately 34.5 hours per week
