Family Wellness Supervisor

Kahkiyaw Ayisiyinowak ka Wahkotot – “All people, especially traditional peoples, are related” – Kahkiyaw is a new and ground-breaking Aboriginal-led and community-based program created to significantly improve the lives of Aboriginal children, youth, and families in the Edmonton and Area Children and Family Services Authority (CFSA).

Kahkiyaw is being delivered in partnership by Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society and Boyle Street Community Services, two community organizations with a long and successful history of serving Aboriginal people in Edmonton. Working closely with Children Services Central Neighbourhood Centre, and using the Collaborative Service Delivery, the program will provide a continuum of services to improve the outcomes for Aboriginal children and families in our city.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and coordination to a team of eight.
  • Responsible for on-going direction, guidance, and supervision of staff, as well as our clients that require our services.
  • Encourage workers to integrate cultural resources to help support family needs.
  • Possess knowledge of community resources to suggest to their team.
  • Assess needs and teach workers to create goals and strategies to support the development for children and families.
  • Build positive relationships with the families, work cooperatively with caseworker supervisors and other invested partners.
  • Maintain effective cross-functional relationships with staff, colleagues, and partners.
  • Responsible for developing professional time management, ensure that all monthly family progress reports are correct and submitted on time to our CFSA partners.
  • Responsible for “on call” services every 5-7 weeks.
  • Work effectively with all other Kahkiyaw supervisors on the leadership team.

Education and Credentials

  • Degree or diploma in the Human Services field, Education, Child & Youth Care.
  • Three or more years working with families and youth.
  • Three or more years of supervision experience.
  • Current (within 6 months) Criminal Record check and Child & Family Intervention check. If submitting application, apply for these requirements as soon as possible, as this can detour employment start date.
  • Valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Cultural Resources, Ceremonies, and Protocol is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary plus monthly auto allowance.
  • Paid sick and wellness days (pro-rated) after 3 months’ probation.
  • Extended Health Benefit (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months’ employment.

 The office is located at our Boyle Street Community Service, 10116 – 105 Ave. Edmonton, AB.
